The Cumulative 3d Data Collection and Management during Archaeological Project
نویسندگان
چکیده
During an archaeological project various data sources and various levels of accuracy and geometric details will be needed in 3D modelling. The subject has been discussed based on the experiences gathered during the Finnish Jabal Haroun Project (FJHP) in Petra, Jordan. Especially the data collection processes aerial photogrammetry, tachymeter measurements, and terrestrial photogrammetry are considered. The data management of 3D data and image data are presented.

Archaeological data collection is based on the description of archaeological contexts. An archaeological excavation demolishes the original matrix within which the cultural material is found and special care is taken to record spatial context. Each artifact is described in terms of its physical and spatial properties as well as its relation to the matrix (for example soil composition). As sever...
متن کاملA Catch 22 of 3D Data Sustainability: Lessons in 3D Archaeological Data Management & Accessibility
Archaeologists can now collect an inordinate amount of 3D data. But are these 3D data sustainable? Are they being managed to make them accessible? The MayaArch3D Project researched and addressed these questions by applying best practices to build four prototype tools to store, manage, visualize, and analyze multiresolution, geo-referenced 3D models in a web-based environment. While the technica...
متن کامل3D Puzzling of Archaeological Fragments
A major obstacle to the wider use of 3D object reconstruction and modeling is the extent of manual intervention needed to construct 3D models. Such interventions are currently massive and exist throughout every phase of a 3D reconstruction project: collection of images, image management, establishment of sensor position and image orientation, extracting the geometric detail describing an object...

Digital and automated photogrammetric methods and procedures developed for the collection and management of spatial data have been well introduced on archaeological applications. The use of terrestrial laser scanning systems provides new capabilities for 3D visualization of the present situation of a site. Recently, special tools in Spatial Information Systems (SIS) and management systems of vi...
